The Golden Age of Social Media

The Golden Age of Social Media

This ‘golden age’ of social media has allowed us all to express our opinions, beliefs, frustrations, and viewpoints. I, too, have greatly benefited from this platform. My professional career in technology has allowed me to see the advancements.
I will take this moment to bring to the forefront my one major concern. As we become more and more driven to technological advancements, we are at the SAME time becoming more and more ‘disconnected’ in our humanity.
I can’t remember the last time I called a business or organization; an ‘actual’ human voice was on the other end. You now go to most fast food restaurants, go through the drive-thru, and have an ‘AI’ computer voice clerk take your order. From a ‘business’ point of view, I can understand why this is happening. Technology allows us to pay our bills online, go grocery shopping, check the alarm systems on our houses, have food delivered to our front door, and give us pinpoint directions to any location when driving in our cars. Cell phones are a must for everyone, from children to adults. I have to ask the question, “Are we any better by all of this?”
I would be amiss if I didn’t point out the most recent event of a woman being burned to death on a NYC subway by a migrant while people sat there and did absolutely nothing. Some individuals had managed to take some video footage with their cell phones. We are seeing people become virtually rich and famous overnight based on how many ‘likes’ or ‘follows’ they can achieve. Many might call this a ‘freedom’ or a ‘right’ to choose their right to express themselves. For that, I will always believe in ABSOLUTES. Absolutes are ‘truths’ that apply to everyone regardless of their beliefs or demographics. For example, the law of GRAVITY will always work, regardless of whether a person believes in it or not. I believe this applies to our HUMANITY as well. Technology can NEVER solve problems like love, hate, peace, justice, and God. The fact that we can do things faster and quickly with accuracy it doesn’t prove anything. Technology didn’t prove its usefulness that day on the subway for that woman. We are being bombarded 24/7 with social media that attempts to engage us with mindless information, inappropriate behaviors, occult and new age beliefs, political misinformation, and ungodly sexual content.
I know this post can fall on ‘deaf ears’. It is also true that people are going to do what they want to do. Nevertheless, I’d like to encourage you to decide how much you will allow social media/technology to impact your life. Shalom
